i was recently given a red tag on my project because the shear wall panels were not staggered. do the pannels have to be staggered on a shear wall 9′ w x16′ in hight?

@chaton602 You would need to ask that question to your structrual engineer, but in most cases the answer is yes.

I’m a flooring specialist at HD: it is the same process, but you’ll actually need to use a different mortar called “premium plus” with a milky additive that gives it the flexibility it needs. Also, the tile you use (true porcelain..!) will also make sure your tiles don’t shatter in the winter. (I live in canada, so i guess it depends where you are!) They are a bit different, so make sure you let an associate know so they can give you the right products!

Have you ever done tiling before? It is rather simple, but there’s a lot of patience in it- and you still need to have done your homework. I work at home depot as a flooring specialist… and the advice I give is to help prevent stupid mistakes but a contractor is lazy and does an awful job. If you do it yourself, its rewarding and you’ll take your time to know it’s done well. Dont buy cheap tiles. They don’t last.

Ditra is awesome for bathrooms, laundry rooms and kitchens (anywhere with water). I always recommend this product to my customers.

I work at Home Depot, but not all of us give out the same advice. People who have actual experience with tiling will know how to do it right. Also, not everyone has had proper training, which is unfortunate (they’re 4 day courses) so not everyone knows. Anyone can do it though with some patience and doing their homework
